For lesbian, bisexual, and queer women as well as non-binary individuals, storytelling can be especially important. Many people grow up without seeing their identities reflected in mainstream media, cultural spaces, or historical records. As a result, their experiences often remain undocumented or misunderstood. Stories have always played a powerful role in shaping communities. They help us understand one another, preserve histories, and challenge the narratives that often exclude marginalised voices.
When people share their stories, they contribute to a collective record of lived experiences.
These narratives help others feel less isolated and provide insights into the diverse realities within LBQ communities. Storytelling also plays an important role in advocacy. Personal stories can highlight issues that statistics alone cannot capture, such as the emotional impact of exclusion, the challenges of navigating identity, or the resilience found within community support.
By creating a platform for sharing these stories, we hope to contribute to a richer, more inclusive cultural narrative.
